The Agricultural Commodities Assurance Program responsibilities includes regulating the quality of feed, pet food and seed. Duties include inspection of feed mills, pet stores and other retails and wholesale outlets to ensure proper labeling and to collect samples to send to the Agricultural laboratory for analysis. This analysis helps to assure the food and we give to our pets and farm animals contains the identified contents as noted on the label. The seed inspection sections helps to assure farmers are purchasing seed meeting proper germination and purity guarantees needed to determine crop yield. If seed fails to meet the guarantees the crop will less than expected and the Kansas farmer my suffer economic distress. The ultimate price is paid by the food consumer by raising food costs. The Program also investigates tissue samples of animals to ensure unacceptable levels of antibiotics and other drugs in food products do not go into the consumer food chain. Education of animal's owners on the importance of following label instructions and federal rules is a important role of agency inspectors.
