| Description: | Primarily in response to requirements of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), SRS has reshaped the public mental health system to restore our system to compliance with federal requirements, so that critical federal financial participation would continue; preserve the desired features of the existing mental health system infrastructure; maintain the Community Mental Health Centers (CMHCs) as the focus of responsibility for the public mental health system, while increasing the number of qualified providers; preserve and encourage services shown to be the most effective in successfully supporting persons with severe mental illness. |
